The rally was led by Tanveer-ul-Kazim, Basharat Qureshi, Talib Hussain Parwaz, Ali Raza Naqvi and other Shia leaders. Participants were beating their chests and weeping bitterly.
Resolutions were adopted in Friday prayers in almost all mosques. While demonstrations were staged in different parts of Southern Punjab like Multan, Kot Addu, Shujaabad, Bahawalpur and Rahimyar Khan.
"We vehemently condemn the bombing of allied forces on holy city of Najaf, killing innocent people and desecration of mausoleums of Hazrat Ali (RA) and other religious leaders, we warn the US to stop aggression against Iraqi people forthwith otherwise Muslims would be forced to launch a crusade against it," said Shia leaders.
"We (Shias and Sunnis) are united on the issue of US aggression against Iraqi people and sacrilegious acts of allied forces and we would not let them continue this aggression," said Allama Taqi Naqvi, a Shia leader while addressing the rally. Participants were carrying placards," Stop bombing-save humanity, USA the biggest terrorist," Remove George W Bush," Save Iraqi people," Stop genocide of Muslims, "Restore normalcy in Iraq and Afghanistan".
